Descripción
Sumario:Introduction: Substance abuse has become a rapidly growing problem worldwide. People of all ages suffer its harmful effects, impacting their health and quality of life. Cocaine is a powerful stimulant used as a recreational drug.  The objective is to describe the oral sequelae of a patient due to the consumption of psychoactive substances. Materials and methods: The case of a 58-year-old male patient with centrofacial necrosis secondary to cocaine use is addressed and described. Biopsies performed during en bloc surgical cleaning under general anesthesia detected extensive necrosis and necrobiotic changes in centrofacial tissues with cartilage necrosis and bone necrobiosis, as well as superimposed contamination. It is consistent with side effects of cocaine use. Results: The patient was referred to the oralmaxillofacial Rehabilitation Unit of the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay (UdelaR) seeking a prosthetic solution. The prosthetic site did not meet the minimum health conditions to consider definitive treatment at that time. Temporary nasal prostheses were fabricated to accompany the healing period.
