description This study aimed to determine how students perceive themselves as motivated for academic writing in a sample of 87 students (47 = female, 40 = male), in economic sciences and management at a public university. The Motivation Questionnaire for Academic Writing was used to measure motivation, consisting of 37 questions, which include four dimensions: self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, and self-regulation. The questionnaire was translated from English to Spanish and validated by a group of translators. Then, a group of expert judges carried out the content validity. The questionnaire was then applied to a pilot group to observe the instrument's reliability, resulting in 0.902 in Cronbach's alpha. Finally, the questionnaire was applied to a sample of 87 first-year Economic Sciences and Management students at a public university. The results of the Motivation for Academic Writing Questionnaire show that female students showed a higher degree of motivation for academic writing in the four dimensions compared to male students, although these results were not significant. In the general results, it is observed that the majority of students of economic sciences showed greater extrinsic motivation since they agree that academic writing will contribute to their professional development and, consequently, they feel motivated to write academic texts in an organized manner, an aspect linked to self-regulation. Similarly, they feel self-efficacious in their knowledge of the normative use of language, for which they are willing to make an effort in matters of writing.

Para medir la motivación, se empleó el Cuestionario de Motivación para la Escritura Académica, compuesto por 37 preguntas, las cuales incluyen cuatro dimensiones: autoeficacia, motivación intrínseca, motivación extrínseca y autorregulación. El cuestionario fue traducido del inglés al español y validado por un grupo de traductores. Luego, se realizó la validación de contenido por un conjunto de jueces expertos. A continuación, el cuestionario fue aplicado a un grupo piloto para observar su confiabilidad; el Alfa de Cronbach fue 0.902. Finalmente, fue aplicado en una muestra de 87 estudiantes del primer año de las carreras de ciencias económicas y de la gestión de una universidad pública. En los resultados generales, se observa que la mayoría de estudiantes de ciencias económicas y de la gestión mostraron una mayor motivación extrínseca, pues coinciden en que la escritura académica contribuirá con su desarrollo profesional y, en consecuencia, se sienten motivados para escribir textos académicos de manera organizada, aspecto vinculado con la autorregulación. De manera similar, se sienten autoeficaces en el conocimiento del uso normativo de la lengua. Para medir a motivação, foi utilizado o Questionário de Motivação para a Escrita Acadêmica, composto por 37 questões, que incluem quatro dimensões: autoeficácia, motivação intrínseca, motivação extrínseca e autorregulação. O questionário foi traduzido do inglês para o espanhol e validado por um grupo de tradutores. Em seguida, a validade de conteúdo foi realizada por um grupo de juízes especialistas. Em seguida, o questionário foi aplicado a um grupo piloto para observar a confiabilidade do instrumento; o alfa de Cronbach foi de 0,902. Por fim, o questionário foi aplicado a uma amostra de 87 estudantes do primeiro ano de Ciências Econômicas e Gestão de uma universidade pública. Nos resultados gerais, observa-se que a maioria dos estudantes de ciências econômicas apresentou maior motivação extrínseca, uma vez que concordam que a escrita acadêmica contribuirá para o seu desenvolvimento profissional e, consequentemente, sentem-se motivados a escrever textos acadêmicos de forma organizada, aspecto ligado à autorregulação.
