Descripción
Sumario:Fungal lesions on coffee leaves compromise both the survival and the productivity of the crop. Immediate and objective assessment of foliar incidence enables rapid phytosanitary action, preventing damage from reaching economically critical levels. This study aimed to determine the relationship between incidence and severity of foliar fungi in the coffee crop (Coffea arabica L.) var. Caturra in the Chilachi sector (Huancabamba, Oxapampa, Pasco, Perú). To that end, 150 plants were randomly selected within a private half-hectare plot. Both incidence and severity of Yellow Rust (Hemileia vastatrix), Ojo de Gallo (Mycena citricolor) and Cercospora (Cercospora coffeicola) were recorded in the lower, middle and upper strata of the coffee canopy. The statistical analysis showed a highly significant positive correlation between incidence and severity in the three fungal pests. Coefficients of determination (R2) ranged from moderate to high, confirming the usefulness of incidence as an early indicator of foliar severity in coffee.
