The testimonies collected from students from two secondary schools located in peripheral urban areas allow us to examine how the conditions of vulnerability marked by the degradation of the social fabric, mistrust and uncertainty structure affective life. The existential fears are revealed due to the arbitrariness of the police apparatus and the dangerous situations involved in traveling through the neighborhood where they live. It is concluded that the school occupies a central place as a space of pacification of the bonds valued and recognized by the interviewees.El presente artículo se propone analizar desde una perspectiva socioeducativa las relaciones entre las experiencias emocionales y la condición estudiantil de jóvenes de sectores populares. Los testimonios recogidos a estudiantes de dos escuelas secundarias enclavadas en zonas urbanas periféricas permiten examinar el modo en que las condiciones de vulnerabilidad signada por la degradación del tejido social, la desconfianza y la incertidumbre estructuran la vida afectiva. Los miedos existenciales se ponen de manifiesto debido a la arbitrariedad del aparato policial y a las situaciones de peligro que supone transitar por el barrio donde viven.
