The book is published with the support of the International Office of Education in Geneva and is of considerable value insofar as accounting for a bibliography as extensive as that of bilingualism is already a feat in itself. Another problem in undertaking such a task is the little agreement that exists among specialists due to the ambiguity and variable extension of the term bilingualism. Finally, we must not forget that the contact of languages and cultures poses many problems of various types and magnitudes with the consequence of the multiplication of educational approaches and policies.Siguán y Mackey, clásicos de la literatura sobre el bilingüismo, acaban de editar esta útil vista panorámica de los estudios sobre educación y bilingüismo, una de las pocas visiones globales sobre el tema. El libro se publica con el concurso de la Oficina Internacional de Educación de Ginebra y tienen un valor notable en tanto que dar cuenta de una bibliografía tan amplia como la del bilingüismo es ya de por si una hazaña. Otro problema para emprender semejante tarea es el poco acuerdo que existe entre los especialistas debido a la ambigüedad y a la extensión variable del término bilingüismo.
