The combination of cognitive and socioemotional competencies has been a focus of interest in the scientific literature given the impact of both on educational outcomes, the labor market and social behavior. In light of this situation, the present research aimed to investigate the relationship between cognitive and socioemotional competencies. The study enrolled 362 Brazilian students from the 3rd year (n = 168) and the 5th year (n = 194) of elementary school, aged 8 to 15 years (M = 10.3 years, SD = 1.33, 180 females). Participants answered five sub-tests of intelligence (verbal, abstract, numerical, spatial and logical) and a scale for the evaluation of socioemotional abilities (composed of the factors of openness to experiences, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, control locus and emotional stability). The results showed significant correlations between the six factors that compose the socioemotional competencies and the total score in the intelligence measure, confirming the importance of both being stimulated in different contexts. |

Los participantes fueron 368 estudiantes brasileros del tercer año (n = 168) y quinto año (n = 194) de la Enseñanza Fundamental. Sus edades estuvieron en un rango de 8 a 15 años (M = 10.3 años, DE = 1.33), siendo 180 del género femenino. Los participantes respondieron a cinco medidas de razonamiento para evaluar la inteligencia (verbal, abstracto, numérico, espacial y lógico) y una escala para evaluar las habilidades socioemocionales (compuesta por los factores de apertura a nuevas experiencias, concientización, extroversión, amabilidad, locus de control y la estabilidad emocional). Los resultados mostraron relaciones significativas entre los seis factores que componen las competencias socioemocionales y la puntuación total de la medida de inteligencia, que confirma la importancia de estimular inteligência y competências socioemocionales en los diferentes contextos.Une combinaison de compétences cognitives et sócioémotionnelles a été le centre d’intérêt de la littérature scientifique, compte tenu de l’impact des deux sur les résultats scolaires, le marché du travail et le comportement social. Compte tenu de cette situation, la présente recherche visait à étudier la relation entre les constructions. L’étude a inclus 362 étudiants brésiliens de troisième année (n = 168) et cinquième année (n = 194) de l’école élémentaire âgés de 8 à 15 ans (moyenne = 10.3 ans, SD = 1.33), 180 étant du genre féminin Les participants ont répondu à cinq sous-tests de raisonnement pour évaluer l’intelligence (verbale, abstraite, numérique, spatiale et logique) et une échelle pour l’évaluation des compétences socio-émotionnelles (composé de l’ouverture des facteurs à prendre de nouvelles expériences, la conscience, extraversion, la gentillesse, le lieu de contrôle et stabilité émotionnelle). Les résultats ont montré des corrélations significatives entre les six facteurs qui composent les compétences socio-émotionnelles et le score total sur la mesure de l’intelligence, afin de confirmer l’importance que les deux sont stimulés dans des contextes différents.A combinação entre as habilidades cognitivas e socioemocionais tem sido foco de interesse da literatura científica, dado o impacto de ambas sobre resultadoseducacionais, mercado de trabalho e comportamento social. Diante desse quadro, a presente pesquisa teve como objetivo, investigar a relação entre os construtos. Participaram do estudo 362 estudantes brasileiros do 3o ano (n=168) e 5o ano (n=194) do Ensino Fundamental, com idades entre 8 e 15 anos (M=10.3 anos; DP=1.33), sendo 180 do gênero feminino. Os participantes responderam a cinco subtestes de raciocínio para avaliação da inteligência (verbal, abstrato, numérico, espacial e lógico) e uma escala para avaliação das habilidades socioemocionais (composta pelos fatores de abertura a novas experiências, consciencia, extroversão, amabilidade, lócus de controle e estabilidade emocional).
