Este estudio investigó el efecto de la orientación del mensaje y el tipo de personalidad en la intención del participante de reducir el uso del smartphone. El experimento tuvo un diseño factorial 2x2 entre sujetos. Cincuenta y nueve participantes fueron asignados aleatoriamente a leer una versión unilateral o bilateral de un artículo sobre el uso de smartphones. A continuación, completaron un cuestionario para atribuirles una personalidad Tipo-A o Tipo-B. Por último, respondieron a la prueba de intención de cambio de conducta para medir su intención de reducir el uso de teléfonos inteligentes en el futuro. Contrariamente a investigaciones anteriores, los resultados muestran que la orientación del mensaje y el tipo de personalidad no afectaron a la Intención de Cambio de Conducta y que no hubo una interacción significativa entre ambas variables. La investigación futura en prevención sanitaria debería investigar las acciones en lugar de las intenciones conductuales de cambio.

Therefore, it is a challenge to design strategies that reduce its overuse successfully. This study investigated the effect of message orientation and personality type on the participant's intention to reduce smartphone use. The experiment had a 2x2 between-subjects factorial design. Fifty-nine participants were randomly assigned to read a One-sided or a Two-sided version of an article about smartphone use. Then, they completed a questionary to attribute them to a Type-A or Type-B personality. Finally, they answered the Behavioral Change Intent to measure their intention to reduce their future smartphone use. Contrary to previous research, the results show that that message-sidedness and personality type did not affect Behavior Change Intent and that there was no significant interaction between both variables.
