RESUMENEl Hipotiroidismo Congenito (HC) es una deficiencia de las hormonas tiroideas (HT) presente en o antes del nacimiento. El diagnstico temprano es crucial porque un retraso en el tratamiento puede conducir a daos cerebrales irreversibles .Sin embargo los signos evidentes de Hipotiroidismo raramente estn presentes al nacimiento, y el 95 % de los pacientes afectados son asintomticos .Se reporta el caso de un recin nacido con HC detectado a travs del tamizaje neonatal (TN). A los 14 das de vida, el TN report la hormona estimulante de la tiroides (TSH) en 119.9 ?UI/mL; la determinacin elevada de TSH y T4 disminuida en suero fue diagnstica para HC. El paciente recibi tratamiento con L- tiroxina en dosis de 60 ?g/da. El retardo en el diagnstico o tratamiento del HC resulta en retraso mental. Actualmente, con el Tamizaje neonatal (TN) los pediatras y neonatlogos pueden prevenirlo mediante un diagnstico temprano y reemplazo hormonal adecuado con tiroxina.Palabras Clave: Hipotiroidismo Congenito; Hormonas Tiroideas; Tamizaje neonatalABTRACTCongenital Hypothyroidism (CH) is a deficiency of thyroid hormone (HT) present at or before birth Early diagnosis is crucial because a delay in treatment can lead to irreversible brain damage. However, obvious signs of Hypothyroidism are rarely present at birth, and 95% of affected patients are asymptomatic. We report the case of a newborn with HC detected through neonatal screening (NT). At 14 days of age, TN reported thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) at 119.9 ?UI / mL; the elevated TSH and decreased T4 determination in serum was diagnostic for HC. The patient was treated with L-thyroxine at a dose of 60 ?g / day. The delay in the diagnosis or treatment of HC results in mental retardation. Currently, with Neonatal Screening (NT) pediatricians and neonatologists can prevent it by early diagnosis and adequate hormone replacement with thyroxine.Palabras Clave: Congenital hypothyroidism; Thyroid hormones; Neonatal screening
