An urgency to be depícted is observed at the interior of the upper class when they startto get power and involve themselves in politics and economics.Especially the women of the heads of government get theír portraits painted in orderto establísh their socioecomic status. Studying feminine portraits from this perspectiveenables us to see history of art through an unseen angle: art, power and genre.Through a study of her portraits, Empress Carlota Amalia, involved in política! powerduring the second mexican Empire is rescued to art.
La urgencia por ser retratada se intensifica durante el siglo XlX con un desarrollo diferente,pues la burguesía desea contemplarse y legar a sus hijos su imagen. En AméricaLatina el retrato burgués surge a partir de la Independencia en el momento en que estaclase social comienza a desempeñar un papel decisivo dentro de la política, la economíay la estructuración del país. Entonces las mujeres de los mandatarios empiezan a retratarse,con el agregado de dejar establecido su estatus socioeconómico y a veces político.Por ello, el estudio del retrato femenino desde esta perspectiva da pie para ver la historiadel arte a través de un ángulo no tocado: arte, poder y género.Esta investigación, a partir de la retratística pictórica dispersa en museos y colecciones,rescata del olvido a la emperatriz Carlota Amalia, involucrada en el poder político duranteel Segundo Imperio Mexicano (1864-1867).
