Se muestra el uso de la Espectrofotometría de 2da derivada para determinar la concentración de cafeína en bebidas gasificadas oscuras, (la determinación directa no es posible debido al color intenso de la muestra) y la determinación de caseína en leche (muestra turbia), usando para ambos casos la técnica de adición de patrón. La concentración de cafeína fue de 107 ppm y la de caseína, 3%.
