The paper analyses the events leading to the 2006 uprising of theAchuar people of the Corrientes basin (Loreto), who have sufferedfour decades of contamination due to oil exploitation. It also examinesthe Peruvian State’s and the oil company´s attitudes throughoutthe protest and after signing an agreement aiming to stop contaminationand remedy environmental and social havoc. Materials usedinclude interviews conducted with different stake holders and a widerange of written records, such as political declarations, reports onlocal people´s health´s and remediation work, agreement documentsand letters exchanged between stake holders, as well as historicaland socio economic background information. The article formalizes a theoretical-methodological proposal of the communicative practices of networked social movements as a new cycle of collective action. Digital activation is proposed as an emergent and inter- disciplinary object of study, which consists of contexts and dimensions that can be studied under the light of “deep hermeneutics”, and that represents a contribution to the sub-field of political communication.

Religious regimes of normativity, pertaining to non-catholic traditions of Christianity, which are particular to the history of Asia, where they originated and throve between late antiquity and early modern age, provide a powerful testimony as to social, legal and cultural entanglements that cannot be acknowledged nor understood from the binary vision of the Kulturkampf between the “East” and the “West”. Case in point: the tradition of the “Nestorian” Church of the East, with its early spread eastward, from Mesopotamia and Persia to India and China, through all of Central Asia, long before the catholic and protestant missions of the late Middle Ages and the modern age (14th to 19th centuries), defies the paradigms of postcolonial analysis.
