This work aims to simulate a bioreactor to produce ethanol from glucose using immobilized cells . First, we have proceeded to statistically evaluate the proposed kinetic models , from which we selected the model Aiba , Shoda and Nagathani [18 ] as the most appropriate model . Second, the values of the simulated fermentation have been validated by comparing the results with experimental data and Mutharasan Gencer [17 ] . Finally , the yield of ethanol production was simulated by considering a bioreactor of PFR type . The solution of the equations of material balance was done using Runge Kutta algorithm in Mathcad 7P IV . Comparison of simulated and experimental Mutharasan Gencer sample values appropriate arrangement .

The notable performance of seismically isolated bridges in South America during the last two major seismic events has been reflected in the increase in the use of base insulators in this type of infrastructure. In this work, a multi-span non-isolated bridge was retrofitted to achieve continuous functionality by adopting seismic isolation devices. In order to carry out a comparative evaluation, the bridge was analyzed using elastomeric and sliding type isolation devices. In this case study, the Lead Core Elastomeric Insulator (LRB) and the Triple Pendulum Frictional Insulator (TFPB) were chosen as representative models. Nowadays, companies face strong competition worldwide, so there is great pressure to increase productivity and reduce production costs. Low productivity is reflected in a high amount of waste, unproductive times, and returns in the extrusion process of an SME in the plastics industry. Therefore, a model focused on continuous improvement is proposed to increase productivity using Lean Manufacturing tools such as Standard Work, SMED, and TPM. Through a simulation of the extrusion process using the Arena software, it was possible to validate an increase in the productivity of the extrusion process by 4.97%, going from 0.21 to 0.22. Likewise, the Standard Work tool reduced wastage by 30.44%, the SMED tool reduced extruder machine setup times by 9.76%, and finally, the TPM tool, focused on its fourth pillar of quality maintenance, was able to reduce defective products by 28.38%.

En nuestros días los hospitales llevan a cuestas una gran lucha contra el mortal enemigo COVID-19 y hemos aprendido que las armas más valiosas son los antinflamatorios y los sistemas de asistencia ventilatoria intrahospitalaria; sin embargo, el incremento masivo de los casos ha superado la disponibilidad de estos últimos, así nació la idea de usar todo lo que esté a nuestro alcance para logar una suficiente administración de oxígeno a los pacientes. This article describes a technique that uses innovation tools for process improvement aimed at providing new and better ways to apply methodologies, such as PDCA, Six Sigma, kaizen and jidoka, among others, that are currently used in companies. To this end, tools that involve employees of companies whose processes are not reaching the strategic objectives will be used. This methodology consists of six steps: the first three are focused on the definition, measurement and analysis of the problem, while the next three address the design, tests, and implementation and control of the solution. This tool seeks breakthrough results for companies during the process of analysis and implementation of improvements that result from applying the methodology described herein. Using the case method, the proposed methodology is applied to a real case and its results are validated.

The problems under analysis basically deal with modeling projected free cash flows and investments, and their Net Present Value estimation, a process which in many cases may require numerical integration. The document shows how Stella allows construction of a model in a simple fashion, and with it to make simulations that give graphical solutions, as is the case of the decision of the optimal harvest time, or the selection between alternative projects, among others.
