En el presente artículo se plantea una reflexión en torno al papel que cumple el lenguaje en los procesos de pensamiento de orden superior que se llevan a cabo en las funciones ejecutivas, en especial, en las que intervienen en la regulación metacognitiva; ello con el fin de develar las relaciones que se presentan entre el lenguaje como condición sine qua non de regulación metacognitiva. Esta revisión conceptual se presenta, ya que para algunos teóricos el lenguaje es tomado como producto y no como un elemento constituyente de los procesos de pensamiento en nivel superior.
