The article approaches approach to the assumptions of methodologies for measuring online conversation. These methodologies record what users do when access to social media institutional profiles, which allows observing the impact of the publications. However, they do not take into account neither the response of institutions as a result of listening to users nor the possibilities of co-creation. Thereby, conversation is confused with mere digital interaction. Seeking for engagement is executed as a strategic action of conquest of users, which ends up stopping the advances towards a culture of collaboration. The objective is to offer a theoretical contribution that allows defining the pragmatic and ethical assumptions of both the digital interaction and the conversational encounter. With this, the conversationalist paradigm is criticized, which identifies the online linguistic exchange as...

The journalistic images are subject to debate and controversy: from the girl of Trang Bang to the most recently images of women and female kids during the earthquake and the cholera epidemic in Haiti in 2010, comments on the symbolic and communicative value of the pictured subject keep occurring. The press images awarded as “photo of the year” by World Press Photo in the period between 2000 and 2011 represent international conflicts and disasters where the main characters are mostly women and children, plenty of drama and pathos. The axes of the discussion are the main photography situation on thedaily journal front page, against the right to privacy, the iconic representation of the sick people and victims of disasters and the social discussion through the network.

This article studies the effectiveness of websites of Chilean deputies as a communication tool. Researchers conduct a content analysis of the entire website of parliamentarians at two moments: 2015 and 2018. A first fact is that only half of the deputies have a website, rejecting its potential as a communication tool for citizens. In addition, none of the 129 websites analyzed, 66 in 2015 and 63 in 2018, is effective in terms of digital communication, underutilizing the informative and dialogical potential of this tool. The article also provides information about the use of Facebook and Twitter by parliamentarians. In the light of the results, the websites of Chilean deputies are used in the old logic of mass communication that includes a sender and a passive public, contradicting the digital democratization that characterizes the communication of the 21st century.

This paper proposes to explain the perception about China and the opinion making in Western social networks. It explores the most commented news (in BuzzSumo) in 2017. Through quantitative and qualitative analysis content, shares, commented and likes are quantified; positive and negative perception indicators are measured; the most repeated words (Wordclouds.com) are selected, and the texts are analysed and interpreted. The monitoring of network users (graphs theory and Gelphi) shows the relationship among them. The triangulation of methods and sources is completed with a survey. As a result, the perception about China on the social networks varies depending on the subject and on the distance. The users show concern about the economic and military power of China, but they consider the Chinese population as peaceful, collaborative and hard-working. The social networks operate&nb...

This research describes the professional profile of journalists who work in newsrooms that are pioneers in data analysis in Peru: Ojo Público and Convoca, as native digital media, and El Comercio Data and La República Data, as part of traditional media. To achieve this objective, and through a mixed approach, their bosses, coordinators or directors are interviewed, and questionnaires are applied to the journalists who work in them. The results show that journalists follow the methodology of data journalism, consisting of seven work phases: compile, clean, context, combine, analysis, verification and communication of data, and using technological tools in each of them with a skill level that is primarily not expert. In addition, most of their knowledge was self-taught, thus evidencing a lack of specialization in data journalism in the Peruvian higher education.
