Commonly authors of literature dealing with chaos report a single and truncated chaotic event occurring in the chaotic system they have investigated. This paper reports a multiplicity of chaotic events detected in the non-linear damped and forced oscillator. In order to detect chaos in this oscillator, a Virtual Lab (integrated and interactive computer program) was developed by the author of this report. With this Virtual Lab many chaos simulations were executed and the resulting Poincaré Maps for angles of 0° and 180° were extracted and filtered to avoid event duplicity. It has been found that chaotic events do not last forever; they have a beginning and an end, which means they are transitory. No numerical connection has been detected between the natural frequency of a chaotic oscillator with that of the periodical applied force.

Access to clean drinking water is crucial worldwide. Throughout history, various methods of distribution have been developed to ensure that people have access to good quality water. Nowadays, there are various risks associated with water contamination, including those caused intentionally and unintentionally. Responding to such incidents typically involves manual decisionmaking processes, emphasizing the need for automated strategies. This thesis introduces a novel approach employing Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) to optimize isolation strategies and flushing methods within water distribution systems (WDSs). By integrating mass conservation and energy conversion equations, coupled with Hazen-Williams equation for pressure drop calculations, the proposed model aims to minimize contamination risks arising from various sources, including natural disasters and cyber-attacks. The...

The objective of this work is to provide a reliable numerical model using the finite element method (FEM) for the dynamic analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) structures. For this purpose, a computer program based on a strain-rate sensitive elasto-plastic theory is developed using 3D brick finite elements. The implicit Newmark scheme with predictor and corrector phases is used for time integration of the nonlinear system of equations. In addition, the steel reinforcement is considered to be smeared and perfectly adhered to concrete and represented by membrane finite elements. Two benchmark examples are analyzed with the present numerical model and results are compared with those obtained by other authors. The present numerical model is able to reproduce the path failure, collapse loads and failure mechanism within an acceptable level of accuracy.
