Phytases are a special class of phosphatases that catalyze the sequential hydrolysis of phytate. The inability of plants to utilize phosphorous from soil phytates is due to the low phytase activity in plant roots. Soil microorgan- isms play an important role in the processes that affect the transformation of phosphate containing compounds. Many of them can solubilize phosphorus from phytates, by means of the liberation of phytases. This process allows the mobilization of phosphorus towards the plants and a better utilization of this nutrient. Nevertheless, many soil bacteria lack gene coding for these enzymes, which diminishes the availability of this element in soil. One alternative to obtain improved rhizobacteria in relation to their capacity to solubilize soil phytates is by their genetic transformation with genes that codify for those enzymes. In this work, the gene phyL from B. lic...

Talides basistrigata Eaton, 1932, originally described from Peru, was subsequently transferred to the genus Hylephila Billberg, 1820 by Evans (1955) and considered a subspecies of H. phyleus (Drury, 1773), arguing that basistrigata inhabits drier environments than phyleus. Currently, the taxonomic status proposed by Evans is retained. The aim of this study is to reinstate the taxonomic status of valid species for basistrigata based on an integrative analysis considering morphological, ecological, and genetic aspects. Genitalic structures were examined in specimens of both basistrigata and phyleus, mitochondrial COI gene sequences were obtained for both species, and field data were collected to understand their oviposition behaviour in the vicinity of Arequipa city, southwestern Peru. As a result of the morphological examination, notable differences were found between the male genitalia s...

In Lima, informal settlements emerge from the construction of straw houses in the desert under poverty and precarious conditions. However, after seven decades of existence, they have transformed into relatively integrated neighborhoods in the city, with considerable level of development. This article describes how an urban fabric emerges within inverted planning processes, from large to small scales, from the city to the house (urbanization-division-consruction), being this inversion the engine of its development. Straw houses, the only material that enables communities to settle in the territory, apart from offering shelter, have become a strategy for city making. Housing is either a workshop or a store, a contribution to the urban fabric; it also changes its functions according to the needs of dwellers; housing expands as the neighborhood densifi es, transforming its typology (from hou...

Amazon forests play a pivotal role in maintaining global ecological balance and are recognized as essential in mitigating climate change impacts. Notably, their soils constitute the largest carbon reservoirs globally and provide a spectrum of crucial ecosystem services. Soil microorganisms serve as primary metabolic drivers, enabling the persistence of carbon within the soil matrix as organic matter. This process is critically modulated by the balance of macronutrients, particularly nitrogen and phosphorus. The efficiency of these metabolic processes, especially those linked to biogeochemical cycling, is largely contingent upon the availability of micronutrients, including essential vitamins. Moreover, external factors such as land-use change and pollution (e.g., artisanal gold mining) may alter microbial community functionality by applying selective pressures on specific microbial popul...
