The veterinary medicine profession has a suicide rate 3 to 4 times higher than that of the general population, where 17% of veterinary doctors have had suicidal ideation. The aim of this work was to describe the relationship between job stress and the prevalence of suicidality (non-lethal suicidal behavior) in Chilean veterinary doctors practicing in the Valparaíso region, Chile. During 2019-2021, using the Google platform, the sociodemographic questionnaires, SAD PERSONS, Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) were carried out. In total, 102 valid surveys were received. A prevalence of 23.5% of individuals with burnout and 63.7% of subjects at risk (low, medium, high) was found in both suicide risk scales. The School repetition is a multidimensional phenomenon and one of the three critical knots that education presents for the fulfillment of its universalization. With the purpose of identifying associated risk factors in an educational establishment in the commune of Valparaiso, a mixed investigation is carried out where primary and secondary sources of information are analyzed and described by means of frequency analysis, correlations, contingency tables and linear regression on a data base of 866 students, besides content analysis of semistructured interviews to six teachers. The results establish that the risk of repetition is due to socio-demographic, academic and socio-emotional factors, from which it is concluded that it is necessary to work on three components: family support, academic accompaniment and promotion of school coexistence.

The objective of this study is to understand the main representations of women’s collective memory regarding industrial pollution in Puchuncaví, based on their life experiences in rural areas affected by high levels of pollution and drought. To this end, a qualitative methodology was employed through two focus groups with women from rural communities in the Valparaíso Region, Chile, who participated in a university development project. The findings indicate that, in the context of pollution, drought, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, women continued to work actively in response to the environmental crisis. This research is part of the line of integration and social inclusion of the Viña del Mar University, and determines the conception that young first-year university students from the region of Valparaíso (Chile) have, about the gender stereotypes reflected in society and advertising. Advertising considers both advertising in general and that of regional uni-versities. This study is qualitative and in it, young people recognize the persistence of ma-chismo, as well as the appearance of a new feminine stereotype that demands of man a change. The models of men and women presented by the society and advertising in general are traditional. In university advertising, students recognize greater features of otherness. This view allows observing the coincidences or differences in relation to their personal vi-sion, and its incidence in the development of communication strategies.

This research analyzes the territorial inequalities in morbidity and mortality due to COVID-19 within the Metropolitan Areas of Valparaíso, Santiago and Concepción. The data is extracted from the 40th epidemiological report of COVID-19 and for the proxy of the Social Determinants of Health (DSS) 8 variables or social indicators are used from current information sources of the Ministry of Social Development and the National Institute of Statistics. The methodology used contemplates Exploratory Analysis of Spatial Data uni and bi varied, the construction of a DSS Index (IDSS) and the assessment of the morbidity-mortality relationships due to COVID-19 with the IDSS. On February 2 and 3, 2024, the conurbation of the Province of Valparaíso, Chile, was affected by a catastrophic megafire. In this context, the article presents the results of a qualitative study with an exploratory-descriptive approach, aimed at analyzing the event from the perspective of the contribution of wildland-urban interface zones to the occurrence of the disaster. The findings show that the wildland-urban interface zones of the Valparaíso conurbation constituted a powerful fuel load that increased the territory’s vulnerability to the megafire. This vulnerability was exacerbated by high temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds, resulting in a high destructive potential that reached an unprecedented level of devastation. In Chile, texts written about reptiles usually describe the species of the genus Liolaemus as insectivorous, omnivorous and sometimes herbivorous. However, no greater level of detail is given. Within the genus Liolaemus is Liolaemus zapallarensis (Müller & Hellmich, 1933), a species endemic to Chile that inhabits coastal scrub with rocks, and is known to be omnivorous, including green shoots and flowers. In order to contribute to the knowledge of the diet of this species, the objective of this note is to report the casual record of an unknown component in the diet of the species. We report the predation and swallowing of an individual of the spider Acanthogonatus sp. by L. zapallarensis in a dune with a high degree of anthropic intervention. Hunting occurred quickly and effectively.

The objective is to analyze the relationship among the main ports of Valparaiso and Callao with the intermediate ports of the southern Andes during the Bolivian-Peruvian Confederation. It shows how despite the political conflicts unleashed by the war against the Confederation, the trade carried out by important foreign mercantile companies installed in Valparaiso connected the ports of Arica, Islay and Cobija, which acted as links with the great international trade. The new group of merchants created a closely linked merchant network in the region. Based on the documentation of Bolivia, Chile and Peru customs, it addresses the extent to which the competition of interests between the port of Arica and Cobija was one of the reasons for the war against the Confederation.

Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo general determinar la relación entre la gestión por competencias y el desempeño laboral de todos los trabajadores de la organización de estudio. La investigación siguió un paradigma cuantitativo, tipo de investigación correlativa con un diseño no experimental – transversal. Se consideró la población de 32 colaboradores, los cuales se censó. Asimismo, se empleó la técnica de encuesta y como instrumento de medición el cuestionario dirigido a todos los trabajadores. Los principales resultados son: existe relación directa positiva alta entre la gestión por competencias y el desempeño laboral de los trabajadores gracias a: un r = 0,880 y un P (0,000)>0.05. Objetivo: Caracterizar la autopercepción de la calidad de vida en salud bucodental de los adultos en la comuna de Valparaíso, Chile. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio transversal tipo serie de casos en adultos residentes en la comuna de Valparaíso, con un muestreo por conveniencia. Se utilizó el instrumento GOHAI para medir la calidad de vida bucodental, aplicado en noviembre de 2023. Se llevó a cabo un análisis descriptivo de los datos y se evaluó la asociación entre la calidad de vida en salud bucal, medida mediante el puntaje del test GOHAI, y las variables independientes cualitativas. Resultados: La muestra estuvo compuesta por 113 encuestados, de los cuales el 60,18% fueron mujeres (n = 68) y el 39,82% fueron hombres (n = 45). La media de edad fue de 43,84 años.
