description En la cronología histórica de la Biblioteca Nacional, la investigación más reciente --la del Catedrático de Historia de España y América de la Universidad Central de Madrid, Luis Martín-- señala como origen más antiguo el establecimiento de la Biblioteca de la Orden de la Compañía de Jesús dentro del recinto del que fue Colegio Máximo de San Pablo, el año de 1568, justamente en el área urbana formada entonces por las calles o, más exactamente, cuadras denominadas de la Cascarilla (hoy cuarta cuadra de la Avenida Abancay), de la Botica de San Pedro (hoy cuarta cuadra del jirón Antonio Miró Quesada), de El Gato (hoy cuarta cuadra del jirón Azángaro, donde fuera edificada y subsiste la Iglesia de San Pedro) y de los Estudios (hoy cuarta cuadra del jirón Ucayali).
