Se recolectaron las características demográficas y clínicas de los participantes, así como la estancia hospitalaria. Se calculó la relación entre las variables de acuerdo a la estancia hospitalaria con la prueba de chi cuadrado y el estadígrafo riesgo relativo, considerando significativa una p < 0,05. Resultados: El promedio de días de uso de ventilación mecánica y la frecuencia de uso de sedantes fueron significativamente mayores en el grupo de pacientes con estancia hospitalaria prolongada (p<0.05), la constipación es factor asociado a estancia hospitalaria prolongada en pacientes críticos con un riesgo relativo de 2.36, el cual fue significativo (p<0.05), en el análisis multivariado a través de regresión logística se corrobora la significancia del riesgo para las variables: constipación, tiempo de ventilación mecánica prolongada y uso de sedantes como factores asociados a estancia hospitalaria prolongada. Conclusión: la constipación es un factor asociado a estancia hospitalaria prolongada en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos en pacientes críticos del Hospital Víctor Lazarte.

Material and methods: An analytical, observational cohort study was carried out in which 124 critically ill patients were included, according to selection criteria, which were divided according to the presence or absence of constipation. The demographic and clinical characteristics of the participants, as well as the hospital stay, were collected. The relationship between the variables according to the hospital stay was calculated with the chi-square test and the relative risk statistic, considering p < 0.05 significant. Results: The average number of days of use of mechanical ventilation and the frequency of use of sedatives were significantly higher in the group of patients with prolonged hospital stay (p<0.05), constipation is a factor associated with prolonged hospital stay in critically ill patients with a relative risk of 2.36, which was significant (p<0.05), in the multivariate analysis through logistic regression the significance of the risk for the variables was corroborated: constipation, prolonged mechanical ventilation time and use of sedatives as factors associated with stay prolonged hospital stay.
