Material y métodos: Es un estudio descriptivo de corte transversal,observacional,analítico, retrospectivo.La población de estudio estuvo constituida por 118 lactantes desde un año hasta 1 año 11 meses 29 días de vida según los criterios de inclusión , distribuidos en dos grupos : lactancia materna exclusiva y lactancia mixta. Resultados: La lactancia mixta se asoció a una frecuencia de infección respiratoria aguda hasta el año de edad significativamente mayor (M=2,97 ) en comparación con el grupo que recibió lactancia materna exclusiva (M=2,02 , p<0.05 , IC 95% -1,645 ; -0,253 ). Conclusión: Existe asociación entre el tipo de lactancia y la frecuencia de infección respiratoria aguda en los lactantes hasta el año de edad del Policlínico “El Porvenir”.La frecuencia de infección respiratoria aguda en los lactantes hasta el año de edad fue menor en el grupo que recibió lactancia materna exclusiva en comparación del grupo que recibió lactancia mixta.
