La nueva especie, que anteriormente se consideraba una población de L.insolitus Cei, exhibe características de diagnóstico únicas de morfología, patrón de escamas, coloración, y evidencia molecular que sugiere que pertenece al grupo de especies de Liolaemus montanus y al clado de L.reichei. Además, la especie es endémica de las laderas orientales del batolito La Caldera en el Departamento de Arequipa, sur del Perú. También proporcionamos información sobre el estado de conservación de la especie y sugerimos que se incluya en la lista roja de especies amenazadas de la UICN como en peligro de extinción (EN). Se proporciona una clave para las especies del clado L. reichei
