This article approaches the relationship between the sonorous-musical characteristics of the traditional Andean practices and the Andean ethnicity process manifested in the current practice of rock in Peru. This analytical-descriptive study is focused on the musical creativity of the Peruvian rock band Uchpa, formed in 1999, locally in Ayacucho. The first section describes the historical and political context in which the band emerged and analyses its role in the performative aspect by expressing a sense of identity respect to the Andean and, specifically, the Inca. In the second part, the musical analyzes is amplified to reveal how the significant aspects of the band constitute a practice of ethnicity around musical aesthetic result.
