The present research makes known the state of the field of documentation of music and musical practice in Kakataibo songs from the Ucayali region, a realm of songs that accompany daily tasks: lulling a child to sleep, disagreeing with others, lamenting the death of a loved one, or curing. Since this is one of the few realms attended to by research among Amazonian musicians, I will analyze the written documentation and identify the type of focus of each publication. In other words, I will elucidate if the themes addressed in the articles are of ethnomusicological, ethnological, linguistic, or musicological interest. I will favor publications with a musicological or ethnomusicological focus, in which I will contrast the information given by each researcher, to find similarities or divergences with respect to what motivated the documentation and how it was completed. In addition, I will comment on the absences that have been found in the written and sonic documentation to date and will offer suggestions for future investigations.
