| Sumario: | The significant increase in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in Peru and the current knowledge on the prevention of this, make it necessary and feasible to carry out this study, where the risk of suffering from this disease within the next ten years is determined. the Province of Trujillo through the scale of FINDRISC. A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in 550 people over 18 years of age up to 72 years old in the Province of Trujillo in eleven districts. The study was conducted during the months of July and August of the year 2018. In the same, a survey based on the scale of FINDRISC was used to identify the risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus after signing the informed consent. During the evaluation, the abdominal perimeter, weight and height of the participants were measured. The percentage of risk of suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus within the next 10 years was determined: 44.7% (95% CI: 44.43 - 45.02) of people presented a slightly elevated risk; 11.6% (IC95%: 11.01 - 12.26) moderate risk and 6% (IC95%: 5.54 - 6.46) high risk. In turn, risk factors were evaluated: body mass index (BMI), overweight, obesity, lifestyles, family history.
