Sumario:The pathogenesis of inguinal hernia is complex and multifactorial. Including structure becomes important extracellular matrix. In skin and fascia transversalis is a composition similar collagen. The aim of this study is to analyze the difference in the collagen and elastin in terms of percentage of area in patients with and without primary inguinal hernia. Patients: skin samples from surgical incisions from 20 patients was obtained respectively with and without inguinal hernia. Which were observed with a microscope and pictures were captured with a digital camera. Were analyzed with the program Image J. Results:. Average percentage area of collagen fibers of 18.33% and 37.57% for the cases and controls respectively were obtained. No significant differences in the distribution of the elastic fibers was found in both groups. Conclusions: Patients with inguinal hernia have a smaller range of collagen fibers relative to patients without inguinal hernia, besides having a less compact pattern and make thinner
