Sumario: | Personality disorders contribute to the risk of acquiring HIV and interfere with treatment efforts. Investigations have focused on sexual minority groups, intravenous drug users and pregnant. Objective: To demonstrate that personality disorders are a risk factor for HIV infection in adults. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We perform an analytical study Case-Control in Hospital Regional de Trujillo. A psychiatric diagnostic evaluation was performed and the semi-structured interview International Personality Disorder Evaluation CIE 10 was applied to 88 adults with HIV / AIDS and 88 without HIV infection / AIDS. RESULTS: The proportion of Personality Disorders in the case group was 0.56 and in the control group was 0.23. Borderline Personality Disorder was one of the most common in patients with HIV infection / AIDS (30,6%). Infection by HIV / AIDS was significantly associated with the following variables: Personality disorder (OR = 4.56), Marital status (OR = 6.03), primary school level (OR = 1.92), Early onset of sexual activity (OR = 6.96), Perceived risk of HIV infection (OR = 5.15 ) and multiple sex partners (OR = 6.62). CONCLUSIONS: Personality Disorders are a risk factor for HIV / AIDS in adults |
