The present descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study must like objective determine the characteristics of the use of Amikacina in the service of General Surgery of the Hospital Victor Lazarte Echegaray during the 2007. The studied population was conformed by clinical histories of the patients hospitalized in the service of General Surgery. One was that with respect to the pathologies that are reason for use of Amikacina 44,12% it corresponds to peritonitis, 31,76% to complicated ITU nosocomial infection of skin 13,59% and septicemia 10,59%. The proportion of prescribed Amikacina of therapeutic and prophylactic way was 86,50% and 13,50% respectively. On the other hand the dose of Amikacina is considered correct in 90.59% according to the indications in which the antibiotic is used, the election route was the endovenosa with 100%, the use interval was adapted in 86.50% and in relation to the duration of the treatment it was adapted in 90%. The greater consumption of Amikacina according to age parameter corresponds to the ages of 15 - 44 years, and as far as the parameter sex the greater consumption corresponds to masculine sex. With regard to the units consumed of Amikacina in the service of General Surgery during the period of study they were 6593. The DDD/100 bed-day of Amikacina in the service of General Surgery during the period of study was of 15.56. Finally the total cost of Amikacina in the service of Surgery was 5538,12 new suns during the 2007 and the greater monthly cost was 612,36 new suns for August
