Sumario:This research "Government policies in the sugar sector and its impact on the competitiveness of the industry" has focused on analyzing government policies are affecting the sugar sector in Peru, from the corporate restructuring of the sector from the incentives created in the nineties, in order to assess whether the measures taken have failed to increase competitiveness in the industry. To do this, there has been a structural analysis of sugar industry, which has identified the role of the state and its impact on competitiveness. The techniques used for data collection were based on interviews and observation. It also collected information from secondary sources, such as legal and newspaper articles. Through performance standards have been identified that directly affect the sector on internal taxation and customs, and also analyzed structurally to the sugar industry and can identify the identification of strategic groups in the sector and develop schemes that illustrate raw data. At work, it was concluded that the state government through its policies has adversely affected the competitiveness of the sugar industry, because of subsidies and protectionist measures permanent, thus showing the lack of articulation and low development variables of competitiveness of the sugar sector.
