Sumario:To determine the epidemiological characteristics of workplace violence against health professionals in two public hospitals in Trujillo, Peru. Material and Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study. A total of 219 randomly selected health professionals were surveyed between November 2016 and May 2017 at the Regional Teaching Hospital and Belen Hospital of Trujillo. A questionnaire of the International Labor Organization was used. Results: 55.3% of the respondents recognized the presence of workplace violence. Psychological (78.7%), economic (9.9%), physical (7.1%) and sexual violence (4.3%) were evaluated. 78.5% of victims were women, 65.3% were nurses, 23.9% were doctors and 73.5% were between 25 and 44 years old. The aggression was characterized by being verbal (33.3%), occurring once (60.9%), not leaving sequels (79.3%) and occurring in outpatient clinics (37.6%). The main trigger was delay in care (36.2%). The aggressor was characterized by being a patient (39.7%) and aware of their acts (87.9%). The most frequently chosen control measure was the installation of security cameras (59.5%). Conclusion: Violence at work against health professionals in two public hospitals in Trujillo was characterized as psychological type
