Sumario: | Pelvic organ prolapse progressively increases with the woman's age and is related to many factors, including body mass index, whose correlation with prolapse has not been fully studied. Objective: To determine the correlation between body mass index and the degree of prolapse of pelvic organs. Materials and methods: Descriptive-correlational study. A total of 155 medical records of hospitalized patients diagnosed with pelvic organ prolapse were included in the Gynecology Service of the Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital during the period January 2010 to December 2015. General characteristics, BMI and degree of prolapse pelvic were recorded. Approximate Student's t-statistic test with significance of 5% and Goodman's and Kruskal's gamma coefficient (γ) were used to determine the correlation between BMI and degree of prolapse. Results: There was no statistically significant correlation between degree of prolapse and BMI (γ = -0.051, p = 0.661). Conclusion: No positive correlation was found between body mass index and the degree of pelvic organ prolapse |
