Descripción
Sumario:This study investigates the influence of mercury concentration of the most important rivers of the Nanay basin with respect to the availability of protein sources and fresh water for the city of Iquitos for the next 5 years. To achieve this goal, a quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive, analytical, horizontal and predictive research was carried out. Where data on mercury concentration from monitoring carried out by the National Water Authority from 2012 to 2021 were used, in which the data were run through a mathematical model (Holt Winter Model) to predict mercury concentration in rivers in the coming years and contrast with other studies its influence on availability of protein sources and fresh water. The results show that the concentration of mercury in the main rivers studied for the next 5 years does not exceed 0.0001 mg/L; on the other hand, other studies regarding mercury concentration in fish from the Nanay basin in various years reveal that they do not exceed 0.5 mg/kg either, plus that water supply for the city of Iquitos would be assured by a high hydric availability and that mercury concentrations at present do not represent a danger in consuming healthy water free of mercury from Nanay river.
