| Sumario: | The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and self-care practices among older adults with hypertension, who were treated at the Health Service Provider Institution I-4 San Juan. Iquitos, in 2024. It had a quantitative, cross-sectional, non-experimental, and correlational approach; the population consisted of 158 hypertensive older adults. The techniques were: surveys and interview, and the instruments were a questionnaire to measure the level of knowledge in hypertensive older adults and a scale to assess self-care practices in adults with arterial hypertension, developed by the researcher. The result showed that most older adults (58,2%) possess a medium level of knowledge about hypertension, while 41,8% presented a high level of knowledge, with no low levels recorded. Regarding the identification self-care practices, 29,1% of the participants presented adequate practices, while 70,9% inadequate practices. When analyzing the relationship between the level of knowledge and self-care practices in hypertensive older adults, it was observed that within the group with high knowledge (41,8%) the majority (33,6%) maintain inadequate practices, and only 8.2% adequate practices. The statistical analysis showed a p= 0,027. indicating that a relationship exists between the two variables. In conclusion, the results evidence that a statistically significant relationship does exist between the level of knowledge and self-care practices in hypertensive older adults. |
