| Sumario: | The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on problem-solving in data management and uncertainty among students at a secondary school in Iquitos. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design was adopted with an experimental group and a control group, analyzing four dimensions: data representation, communication of understanding, use of strategies and procedures, and justification of conclusions or decisions. The pretest results indicate that both groups had comparable initial conditions, as both the mean and median values were close, which was also validated by Student's t-test (p = 0,823) as well as the Mann-Whitney U test across the dimensions (p > 0,05). However, it should be noted that after learning mediated by PBL, the experimental group showed a significant improvement in all dimensions, with an overall mean increasing from 6,10 to 12,66, while the control group went from 6,06 to 10,14. Subsequent inference confirmed the increase in the experimental group using Student's t-test for the main variable (t = 6,828, p < 0,01), for dimension 4 (t = 4,387, p < 0,01), and the Mann Whitney U test for the other dimensions (p < 0,01). Therefore, this study concludes that PBL can serve as a useful resource to strengthen the competence of solving problems related to data management and uncertainty, as well as a favorable environment to foster meaningful, deep, and collaborative learning based on student autonomy. |
