Sumario:The limited understanding of the relationship between knowledge of urban forest ecosystem services and citizen perception of urban sustainability constitutes a critical gap for environmental management in Amazonian cities. This disconnection between technical knowledge and citizen perception limits the effective implementation of urban sustainability policies. The objective was to analyze the relationship between the level of knowledge about urban forest ecosystem services and the perception of urban sustainability in different population groups in Iquitos, Peru. Cross-sectional study with 159 participants distributed in three groups: agronomy professionals (n=30), agronomy students (n=80) and common people (n=49). Validated structured surveys (reliability coefficient >0.80) were applied during 2023, using Spearman correlational analysis to determine associations between variables. Tangible ecosystem services obtained greater recognition than technical ones in all groups. High knowledge was superior in students (51.5%) versus professionals (36.7%) and common people (32.8%). Paradoxically, critical perception of sustainability was higher in professionals (70.0%) than in students (55.9%) and common people (45.9%). Spearman correlations revealed differentiated patterns: students r=0.84 (strong correlation), professionals r=0.07 and common people r=0.07 (weak correlations). It is concluded that the knowledge-perception relationship is contextual and mediated by specific factors of each population group, not direct as suggested by previous literature. Greater technical knowledge generates more critical perception of urban sustainability, confirming that knowledge per se does not guarantee positive perception. Comprehensive interventions that consider contextual mediating factors are required to improve sustainable urban management.
