Objetivo: realizar una revisión sistemática de la evidencia científica sobre el efecto hipoglucemiante de las plantas medicinales en la diabetes mellitus tipo 2 (DMT2). Material y método: se analizó la eficacia hipoglucemiante de plantas medicinales, seleccionados de 97 artículos (PubMed, Scopus, Scielo; 2019-2024). Se exploraron 10 publicaciones científicas, desde una perspectiva cualitativa con un diseño metodológico correspondiente a una investigación no experimental, descriptiva. Se usó como instrumento plantillas de extracción de datos y la técnica fue estrategia de búsqueda. Resultados: nuestra muestra de 10 artículos científicos seleccionados, mostraron el efecto hipoglucemiantes de 10 distintas plantas: Pueraria lobata, mejora la sensibilidad a la insulina. Rauvolfia vomitaria y Citrus aurantium mostraron efecto hipoglicemiante sinérgico en preparaciones de té. Tapinanthus cordifolius redujo los niveles de glucosa en sangre en comparación con los efectos de la metformina. A. paniculata a dosis de 500 mg/kg tuvo efectos antidiabéticos. Conclusiones: las plantas medicinales revisadas en estos estudios experimentales demuestran tener efecto hipoglucemiante en comparación con los medicamentos convencionales.

Conclusiones: las plantas medicinales revisadas en estos estudios experimentales demuestran tener efecto hipoglucemiante en comparación con los medicamentos convencionales.Introduction: type 2 diabetes is a globally increasing metabolic disorder associated with sedentary lifestyles and obesity. Given therapeutic limitations, medicinal plants are being studied for their hypoglycemic effect, showing promising results in glucose control and insulin resistance. Objectives: to conduct a systematic review of the scientific evidence on the hypoglycemic effect of medicinal plants in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Material and Method: the hypoglycemic efficacy of medicinal plants was qualitatively analyzed (January 2025), comparing them with metformin and glibenclamide, through ten experimental studies selected from 97 articles (PubMed, Scopus, Scielo; 2019- 2024). Results: our sample of 10 selected scientific articles showed the hypoglycemic effect of 10 different plants: Pueraria lobata improves insulin sensitivity. Rauvolfia vomitaria and Citrus aurantium showed a synergistic hypoglycemic effect in tea preparations. Tapinanthus cordifolius reduced blood glucose levels compared to the effects of metformin. A. paniculata at a dose of 500 mg/kg had antidiabetic effects.
