Rhetorical organization of the problem statement in Linguistics degree projects

The degree work has been studied from different perspectives, one of which is the empirical analysis of its rhetorical organization within the framework of the different disciplines of knowledge. In this direction, the purpose of this article is to describe the rhetorical organization of the problem statement section in Linguistics degree projects. For this, a corpus of eleven (11) degree works prepared in the Master's program in Linguistics of two Venezuelan universities was used, which were analyzed based on the model of rhetorical moves and steps. The study showed the presence of six (6) rhetorical moves with their respective steps: contextualizes the research, refers to the objectives/purposes of the study, presents the theoretical and/or legal support, indicates methodological perspectives, values the research and specifies the problem; as well as four (4) communicative macro-purposes that can be related to the prototypical scheme of introductions: presenting the research theme (establishing the territory or field), demonstrating the existence and relevance of a problematic situation that needs to be addressed (establishing the niche in knowledge), present the research proposal based on the establishment of a problematic situation and assess the contribution and impact of the research (occupy the niche).
