description El estudio de los diferentes modos de afrontamiento al estrés sobre los acontecimientos y situaciones que se presentan especialmente si constituyen un impacto significativo en la vida de una persona tal como ocurre en las personas que tienen VIH SIDA y que además deben modificar su estilo de vida al tener que iniciar y continuar de por vida un tratamiento farmacológico nos hizo plantear la interrogante de cómo se relacionan estos modos de afrontamiento al Estrés con la adherencia al tratamiento antiviral en pacientes VIH/SIDA y asimismo conocer las áreas o dimensiones que se podrían considerar significativas para una adecuada adherencia al tratamiento tales como el aspecto social, emocional, el estilo de vida, el medio laboral y los antecedentes de salud y que se pueden ver influenciadas por el modo de afrontamiento al estrés que tiene el paciente con VIH/SIDA. Así el objetivo general fue el de Determinar la relación existente entre el afrontamiento al estrés con la adherencia al tratamiento en pacientes con VIH/SIDA del Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati, Para ello se realizó una investigación descriptiva correlacional M1: OX r OY en una muestra de 50 pacientes VIH/SIDA del hospital nacional Edgardo Rebagliati. A nivel metodológico los instrumentos utilizados para la medición de las variables fueron el cuestionario de Modos de Afrontamiento del Estrés de COPE forma disposicional de Carver y el cuestionario de Valoración de adherencia de Isabel Rocío Echevarría Vigo distribuidos en cinco dimensiones tales como aspecto Social, emocional, estilo de vida, laboral y antecedentes de salud. Ambas pruebas confirmaron su solidez en las características psicométricas con su validez de constructo y confiabilidad por consistencia interna
