description La prótesis inmediata es un tratamiento el cual consiste en instalar la prótesis el mismo día de las exodoncias, este tipo de tratamiento es planteado a pacientes que serán sometidos a exodoncias de sus órganos los cuales han sido afectados por enfermedad periodontal severa y los tratamientos conservadores no pueden ser accesibles y donde las exodoncias de dichas piezas es el único tratamiento posible. Ante este tipo de circunstancia el odontólogo debe de estar preparado para poder afrontar este tipo de casuística ya que el paciente al perder piezas dentales comprometerá muchos factores de los cuales resaltamos la estética y la funcionalidad. Ante este tipo de pacientes surge este tratamiento de prótesis inmediata como un tratamiento alternativo a lo que sería una prótesis convencional y a la vez un tratamiento transitorio Este tipo de tratamiento deberá ser evaluado por dos especialidades las cuales son Rehabilitación Oral y Cirugía Maxilofacial, las cuales juntas van a poder dar solución y una mejor perspectiva al paciente edéntulo. La prótesis inmediata tiene muchas ventajas una de las cuales a resaltar es que servirá como tampón hemostático y ayudara a la cicatrización alveolar, ayudara a que la dimensión vertical del paciente no se vean comprometida ya que se tomaran registros para que la armonía mío facial no se vea alterada, habrá una mejora en la estética ya que se podrá mejorar la posición, tamaño y color de dientes. Como todo tratamiento también tiene desventajas una de las principales es la del acostumbramiento del paciente de la prótesis ya que presentara una sensibilidad por haber sido sometido a la cirugía, otro inconveniente es que al pasar de los meses habrá una reabsorción del reborde alveolar y eso se traduce con una desadaptación de la misma por lo cual necesita un ajuste lo cual el paciente tendrá que acudir a citas con el odontólogo, cabe mencionar y recalcar que si bien es una alternativa que se le da a este tipo de pacientes, la prótesis inmediata no es un tratamiento definitivo si no uno transitorio.
