description La presente tesis busca demostrar que un porcentaje significativo de profesores de inglés en el Perú presenta una brecha entre su práctica docente y el perfil del docente del siglo XXI. El estudio, perteneciente a la línea de investigación cualitativa, hace una comparación de la caracterización realizada por MINEDU sobre el perfil de los profesores de inglés en las escuelas públicas con los resultados de la investigación realizada sobre el perfil de los profesores de inglés de las escuelas privadas. Asimismo, se ha diseñado una capacitación metodológica en estrategias de cuestionamiento para desarrollar el pensamiento crítico durante la clase de inglés, aplicable a ambos grupos de profesores, mediante el uso de la herramienta metodológica que se ofrece en diferentes modos. Entre las conclusiones, se destaca que el perfil promedio de docentes de inglés en el Perú difiere considerablemente de los requisitos de educación en el siglo XXI, ya que existe una brecha evidente entre el desempeño y las características que debe poseer la educación profesional del nuevo milenio. Esta situación podría caracterizarse por deficiencias en aspectos de adaptabilidad, flexibilidad, desarrollo de actitud crítica, aprendizaje continuo y desarrollo de una actitud docente centrada en el alumno.
