description El objetivo de la investigación estuvo enfocada en determinar el nivel de correlación entre el índice de desgaste dental de Smith Knight y la edad del paciente asegurado en el Hospital Essalud III José Cayetano Heredia de Piura 2018. El diseño de la investigación fue de tipo correlacional transversal. Para determinar la población se tomó como referencia el listado de pacientes que se atienden a nivel de los consultorios del servicio de odontología del hospital José Cayetano Heredia, de los cuales fueron un total de 200 casos en los meses de Enero a Febrero del 2018. La muestra fue de 120 pacientes. El índice de desgaste dental de Smith-Knight en pacientes asegurados en el Hospital Essalud III José Cayetano Heredia de Piura 2018 se presentó mayor desgaste a nivel de incisivos en el 40%. La edad del paciente evaluado está entre más de 40 años, en el 53.6%, las características epidemiológicas en los paciente asegurado en el Hospital son de sexo femenino en el 70% y presentan un nivel de urbanidad de 62.5%. La conclusión fue que existe correlación entre el índice de desgaste dental de Smith Knight y la edad del paciente asegurado en el Hospital Essalud III José Cayetano Heredia de Piura 2018.
