Sumario: | In Peru there are more than 16,000 children and adolescents who are transferred to Residential Care Centers (CAR) as a measure of protection against family violence and abandonment in which they live. Given the high number of residents, it is difficult for them to receive individualized attention from their caregivers and for all their needs to be met. It can be observed that this lack leads to frustration; a state of tension generated by the absence of the expected result and that translates into constant crying, kicking, insistent withdrawal from the place or search for support. On frustration, there is quantitative research that has addressed the construct; however, there is little exploration of children's experiences of frustration using qualitative methods. Therefore, the present research aims to understand the frustration experiences of children from 6 to 8 years old from a CAR in Lima. A qualitative study was carried out with a phenomenological-narrative approach, in order to know their experiences, so 13 children from 6 to 8 years old were interviewed, in whom frustration behaviors are evidenced. Based on 17 visual stimuli, their responses were recorded and complemented with a checklist of related behaviors, which was filled out by their caregivers. A qualitative content analysis was carried out to identify, classify and code the information. The results showed that the children's frustration can be translated as the relational frame of reference of their past experiences characterized by the aftermath of abandonment and violence. In addition, it could be identified that they express their desire to form restorative bonds with their fellow residents by seeking their affectionate company and developing empathy for what they may be experiencing. |
