description This study focused on improving the productivity of a Medium and Small Enterprise (MYPE) in the plastic sector through the application of Lean Manufacturing. The MYPE had low productivity due to delays in changing molds in its production processes. The study aimed to increase the availability of machinery and reduce mold changeover time to improve productivity. The approach was a continuous improvement strategy, which involved identifying and eliminating waste, simplifying processes, improving material handling efficiency, and implementing a preventive maintenance system. A root cause analysis was conducted to determine the leading causes of delays in mold changeover, and solutions were implemented to reduce changeover time. The results showed a significant reduction in mold changeover time, which increased machinery availability and improved productivity. Furthermore, waste was eliminated, and efficiency in material management was improved, leading to reduced operating costs. In conclusion, Lean Manufacturing proved to be an effective strategy to enhance productivity in a MYPE facing mold changeover delays. This approach can benefit other companies facing similar issues in their production processes.

This approach can benefit other companies facing similar issues in their production processes.Este estudio se centró en la mejora de la productividad de una Mediana y Pequeña Empresa (MYPE) del sector del plástico mediante la aplicación del Lean Manufacturing. La MYPE tenía una baja productividad debido a los retrasos en el cambio de moldes en sus procesos de producción. El estudio pretendía aumentar la disponibilidad de maquinaria y reducir el tiempo de cambio de moldes para mejorar la productividad. El enfoque era una estrategia de mejora continua, que implicaba identificar y eliminar los residuos, simplificar los procesos, mejorar la eficacia de la manipulación de materiales e implantar un sistema de mantenimiento preventivo. Se realizó un análisis de las causas principales de los retrasos en el cambio de moldes y se aplicaron soluciones para reducir el tiempo de cambio. Los resultados mostraron una reducción significativa del tiempo de cambio de moldes, lo que aumentó la disponibilidad de la maquinaria y mejoró la productividad. Además, se eliminaron los residuos y se mejoró la eficiencia en la gestión de materiales, lo que se tradujo en una reducción de los costes operativos. En conclusión, el Lean Manufacturing demostró ser una estrategia eficaz para mejorar la productividad en una MYPE que se enfrentaba a retrasos en el cambio de moldes.
