According to Shimada, it encompassed two spheres of action: first, it exercised political, religious, and economic control from what is now Sullana in the north to the Moche Valley in the south. The second sphere was economic and ideological, and reached north to the Isla de La Plata in Ecuador and south to the altiplano (Shimada 1995: 165- 167).La cultura Lambayeque, también conocida como "Sicán", fue un estado expansivo de tipo teocrático que tuvo su apogeo durante la fase media (900-1100 d.C.) (Shimada 1995). Según este mismo autor abarcó dos esferas de acción: la dominación política, religiosa y económica que se ejerció en los actuales territorios de Sullana por el norte hasta el Valle de Moche por el sur.
