This study offers a sociolinguistic diachronic perspective on linguistic diversity in Peru, a few decades after the independence from Spain.Desde una perspectiva sociocognitiva, se intenta explicar la percepción y la valoración de los fenómenos lingüísticos de este periodo, comparativamente con el vigente. Las observaciones se circunscriben al análisis de textos periodísticos, algunos reunidos en el Museo de Limeñadas, de Ramón Rojas y Cañas (1853), y en el volumen costumbrista Lima, de Manuel Atanasio Fuentes (París, 1867).
