La UH se caracteriza por una reacción inflamatoria en la cámara anterior del ojo, donde predominan linfocitos y macrófagos, además de ADN pro viral detectado mediante reacción en cadena de la polimerasa. Este estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo y transversal tuvo como objetivo describir las características clínicas inflamatorias de la UH y su asociación con otros síndromes inflamatorios sistémicos, desde el año 2016 hasta 2023, en una institución de salud pública, durante un año de seguimiento. Se analizaron 62 historia clínicas de pacientes con UH, 83.8% fueron mujeres (52), con un promedio de edad de 54 años (26-82 años). Un 77% tuvo baja visual transitoria, 31.30% tuvo miodesopsias en el ojo afectado y 54.5% manifestó agudeza visual entre 20/40 a 20/100 al inicio de la atención médica. La afectación fue de un solo ojo en 65.8 %. Un 22.58% de pacientes tuvo como antecedente un desorden tiroideo (hipertiroidismo, hipotiroidismo, tiroiditis), sin asociación significativamente estadística (p= 0.86). El tratamiento se basó en terapia tópica e inyecciones regionales de corticoide de depósito. Las UH representaron el 16% de todas las uveítis intermedias, convirtiéndose en la segunda causa más frecuente tras las de origen indiferenciado. En la población estudiada, uno de cada seis pacientes con uveítis intermedia fue seropositivo para HTLV.

However, 10% of the carriers of this virus develop malignant diseases such as T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (LLAT) and inflammatory conditions such as Tropical Spastic Paraparesis (MAH/PET) and HTLV-1 associated intermediate uveitis (UH), among other pathologies. UH is characterized by an inflammatory reaction in the anterior chamber of the eye, where lymphocytes and some macrophages predominate, along with proviral DNA detected by polymerase chain reaction. This descriptive, retrospective, and cross-sectional study aimed to describe the inflammatory clinical characteristics of UH and its association with other systemic inflammatory syndromes from 2016 to 2023 in a public health institution, during a one-year follow-up. We analyzed 62 clinical records of patients with UH; 83.8% were women (52 patients), with an average age of 54 years (range 26–82 years). Seventy-seven percent experienced transient visual loss, 31.30% experienced floaters in the affected eye, and 54.5% exhibited visual acuity between 20/40 and 20/100 at the onset of medical care. In 65.8% of cases, only one eye was affected. Additionally, 22.58% of patients had a history of thyroid disorder (hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, thyroiditis), with no statistically significant association (p = 0.86). The treatment was based on topical therapy and regional depot corticosteroid injections. Uveitis caused by HTLV accounted for 16% of all evaluated intermediate uveitis cases, making it the second most frequent cause after those of idiopathic origin.
