The research warns that this doctrine has been undermining the protection of women’s rights and affects the original meaning of the human rights treaties signed by the American countries.Este trabajo analiza históricamente dos elementos medulares del Derecho Interamericano de los Derechos Humanos: el conflictivo escenario geopolítico de la Quinta Reunión de Consulta de Ministros de Relaciones Exteriores de la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA, 1959), que desembocó en la Conferencia Especializada Interamericana sobre Derechos Humanos (OEA, 1969), y el devenir del convencionalismo surgido a partir de la doctrina de don Sergio García Ramírez, expresidente de la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos, conocida como control de convencionalidad.
