Sampling was for convenience, with a final sample of 20 undergraduate nursing professors; 10 from the state of Puebla and 10 from Tabasco. An ex profesa personal data certificate was used and an instrument was applied to assess the nursing teacher's competencies in didactic planning, with a total of 12 items. This instrument has two dimensions subdivided into knowledge and practical skills of the teacher. Main Results: It is shown that 40% of nursing teachers have a low level of competence and 30% are between a moderate and high level with respect to knowledge of didactic planning. Likewise, regarding practical skills, 65% are located at a low level of competence and only 15% present a high level of competence. Overall Conclusion: Didactic planning in nursing is essential to ensure that students receive a quality education and are prepared to face the challenges of the nursing field.Objetivo: Describir el nivel de competencias profesionales para elaborar una planeación didáctica en los docentes de enfermería de una universidad pública del estado de Puebla y Tabasco. Métodos: El diseño del estudio fue cuantitativo, transversal, descriptivo comparativo de dos Instituciones de Educación Superior. El muestreo fue por conveniencia, con una muestra final de 20 docentes de enfermería de pregrado; 10 del estado de Puebla y 10 de Tabasco. Se utilizó una cédula ex profesa de datos personales y se aplicó un instrumento para evaluar las competencias del docente de enfermería en la planeación didáctica, con un total de 12 reactivos.  Este instrumento tiene dos dimensiones; conocimientos y habilidades prácticas del docente. Resultados principales: Se muestra que el 40% de los docentes de enfermería tiene un nivel de competencia bajo y el 30% se encuentra entre un nivel moderado y alto con respecto al conocimiento de la planeación didáctica. Asimismo, referente a las habilidades prácticas, el 65% se ubica en nivel de competencia bajo y tan sólo el 15% presenta un nivel de competencia alto.
