Similarly, its importance during the colonial and republican periods will be demonstrated, based on the traditions «Tabaco para el rey» and «La cajetilla de cigarros», by Ricardo Palma. Finally, the current situation of smoking will be detailed and a reflection on its harmful prevalence for health will be offered.En el presente artículo se describirá cómo la cultura del tabaco ha cambiado a través del tiempo y cuáles son sus diversas aplicaciones, ya sean de carácter cultural, medicinal o perjudicial, en la historia peruana. Para explicar este proceso, se tomará como punto de partida a las antiguas civilizaciones de algunas culturas de la época preincaica. De igual manera, se evidenciará su importancia durante las etapas colonial y republicana, con base en las tradiciones «Tabaco para el rey» y «La cajetilla de cigarros», de Ricardo Palma.
