For this reason, and honoring the title of this section, the main objective of this article is to offer a reflection on the funerary architecture found in the subway part of the religious constructions of the colonial period, with special attention to the Convent of San Francisco. Finally, the causes of the abandonment and subsequent change of function of this type of construction at the current time will be made known.En la tradición de Ricardo Palma, «El robo de las calaveras», destaca el papel recurrente de la muerte y su influencia en las construcciones de catacumbas y criptas. Por esta razón, y haciendo honor al título de esta sección, el objetivo principal de este artículo es ofrecer una reflexión sobre la arquitectura funeraria hallada en la parte subterránea de las construcciones de carácter religioso de la época colonial, con especial detenimiento en el Convento de San Francisco.
