This article also seeks to give visibility to and revalue Afro-Peruvian culture.Siguiendo el espíritu reflexivo de nuestro tradicionista Ricardo Palma y viendo cómo muestra el aspecto multiétnico de la sociedad de su tiempo, al darle protagonismo a mulatos, zambos y negros, el presente artículo tiene como finalidad realizar un análisis de la tradición «El rey del monte», texto que se encuentra en la obra Tradiciones peruanas, en la cual se narra la formación de las cofradías de negros en el siglo XVIII y las desventuras que sufren sus personajes.
